That Jay mech is incredible
THAT MECHA. THOSE DRAGONS. LEEEEEEEEEET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO.
I love all of these. the small dragons once again are a bit hit or miss though. I loved the jay one from last year, and the Cole one looks alright. the ice dragon is a beautiful creature though.
6 legged ice Dragon and a Yeti mech, nice.
These are so good. I need that jay mech!!!
Haven't purchased Ninjago since my son outgrew them several years ago, but I had an immediate reaction to the first set - the little Race Car EVO... its really cool! What a great, simple design... immediately obvious that it would be fun to play with. I also like that another set is shipping in a "brick box". If that box is good quality, it could be a great solution for piece storage for parents of kids with multiple sets. And, yeah, the Jay mech is pretty baller. If I had one critique however... the packaging images are a little visually 'blah'. I'm sure this won't matter to kids who eat sleep and dream Ninjago.
You had me at functional knees........... actually I think the Pic / colour scheme had me before I got down to the knees. Race car nice too almost squashed but great. The few of the others will grow and be on my Wanted list in 2023 im sure
Just the car and Nya's dragon stand out to me. And that is just fine. I'm sure there will be plenty more tempting sets with more pieces coming our way.
That lower jaw piece on the ice dragon looks horrible, no? And the legs of the earth dragon are hilariously stumpy. Despite being waaaay too simple (and frankly quite ugly), the water dragon has some nice charm to it that I haven't seen since Elves. Those looked a lot more organic though...
That MECH thoooo... my goodness they've done it again. This is the first time I've seen LEGO use the flex hose through technic liftarms technique which I definitely wasn't expecting to ever see.
The mini jet has got to have some sort of folding function right? No way they used hinges just to get a specific slight angle on those wings on such a small set. If they did though, colour me impressed!
The blade Kai's mech is holding on the oversized bike (probably the first time that trope actually makes sense) looks ridiculous and I love it. Especially with how minuscule those enemy figs are, poor fellas already came back from the dead! Give 'em a break guys. Ooh, and those new 'finger' pieces look interesting.
Aaaand whaddaya know, that 4+ brick box actually looks really nice! I can't be the only one who genuinely thinks those base models look attractive.

And - oh look, it seems as though we've seen the last of the flickfire-missiles. Pour one out, I guess?
Edit: KNEES!
Edit: also, those bone-weapons. Dang, there's a lot to like here."
That Jay mech is giving me strong Evangelion vibes
Hmm, I can't seem to save my edited comment on Firefox. Is this a known issue @Huw?
ICE DRAGON
A part of me wishes I'd collected Ninjago dragons...

Jay get in the robot.
This is actually a very respectable Evo wave. The $10 sets look really good for what they are, and I love the villains this wave! The shurikens look absurd, but the other weapons look really good! Jay has a nice looking mech(doesn't interest me but still good), and the dragons are nice. I'll admit that I prefer dragons with large wings, but I love Cole's rugged design. Zane's dragon is quite majestic, and it has a nice color scheme along with 6 legs. Even the brick box as previously mentioned by another commenter looks pretty nice! It even seems to include two exclusive figures. It looks like they included the og sword of fire as well. Now if they could just fix the atrocious color schemes of the ninja(excluding Nya and Zane)...
The prices are actually pretty good! Only Nya’s Water Dragon EVO and Cole’s Earth Dragon EVO feel a bit much for what you get
Jay's mech is giving me strong Protoss Zealot vibes.
3rd lightning jet allready
Ice Dragon looks great and seems we get some nice new weapons
I think this is Jay's first large mech? Pretty cool wave!

Yes.
If I find a good deal on the brick box, I may get it to build the little dojo, that looks so cute.
And I will give away/sell the cars and minifigurines, because they don't interest me.
71780 looks like a deployed airbag.
71783, Kai is riding a mech that’s riding a motorcycle, and Jay has to walk?
71785, Jay overcompensates, and Nya has to walk? I’m sensing a pattern here…
71800, Nya rides a dragon, and La-loyd has to walk? Wait, that doesn’t make any sense…
Repetitive, boring and just bad for the most part.
When will Lego finally let the Ninja go??
Unbelievable wave! "Shut Up and Take My Money!" has been officially reinstated for Ninjago!
My comment is for the price table at the end of the post - this is a great and easy way to see the price and conversions for all the sets. Great job and I hope that continues in future "set preview" posts.
Definitely in for 71785 Jay's Titan Mech. I will probably also get 71783 Kai’s Mech Rider EVO. 71781 Lloyd’s Mech Battle EVO is a strong maybe.
The villains look dramatically outgunned this year, to be honest!
These sets are not best ever, but they have some AMAZING pieces.
I will get two Cole Dragons for sure for modding.
EVO concept was really suprisingly fun, so I am looking foward for more!
Zane's Ice Dragon gives me slight Ukanlos (from Monster Hunter) vibes. And in keeping with said Monster Hunter vibes, I like the relatively Brute Wyvern-appropriate style of Cole's Earth Dragon.
What can I say, I like my Monster Hunter.
Edit: The more I look at it, the less I see Ukanlos in it. Huh. Let's make that VERY slight vibes, then.
71783 looks fun, but that price is very unapetizing. The mech riding it must be about 10 euro, so where did the other 35 euro go?!
Those pre-bent limbs are going to hamper play a lot. Now you can't even turn the wrist, effectively making the blade needlessly hard to slash with and making sideways sweeps all but impossible. C'mon lego, make your mechs more posable!
Also: new mech fingers!
The Nya water dragon is appreciated but could have been a 15 euro set, which is missing from the lineup. Jay's mech is very nice but ehm... excessive. I'm probably not going to get it because it looks overly detailed for what it is, which drives up the price.
"Get ready ... as Jay ... and his fellow ninja warrior Nya take on..."
Yeah, watch the new season of
Ninja Warrior Denmark
;-)
Still have my original 2011 Earth Dragon (2509) assembled ... my 1st Lego dragon and 1st of the few Ninjago sets I have... and, despite its age, I still prefer its looks over this new one..
I really like Jay's mech and Zane's dragon. The mech's lanky proportions are unique as are the dragon's six legs.
Overall it seems like a solid wave of sets!
Mech is nice. Mech rider is quite interesting. Wish the Earth Dragon was a bit more developed, but the head is cool. The Ice Dragon is crazy good, may need 2.
Gimme that mech!
Creative Ninja Brick Box looks like it comes with the right parts to expand the Dojo Temple from last year, wait for a discount, tho.

When it stops making money.
Nice especially 71785 Jay’s Titan Mech.
But where is the 2023 Modular!!!!!!!!!
I want the bone weapon pieces
Woww these mechs are really getting cooler every year, look at that beautiful shaping and the blue and white color scheme!
I am disappointed. From the Ninjago theme I like building places the most. This wave has only one set with buildings. Everything else are vehicles and dragons which are of no interest to me. At least my wallet will be happier.
Daaaang, these looks pretty sick! I think I'm gonna need to go back and get some of the first EVO sets. Especially the dragons, just so I can have a full dragon team to go with the ninjas. The Dragons in this wave in particular are looking pretty great.
Here I thought I was going to take a break from Lego and save a bit of money. Oh well. XD
The enemies look a bit underwhelming here--3 guys vs. a huge dragon? A giant mech vs. a small ballista? But the designs are great. I wonder if Jay's mech is supposed to evoke the Hydro Bounty? I ask as someone who knows nothing about the story, I've only ever grabbed a set here and there because it appealed to me.
Also, at the risk of being pedantic, are they still called stud shooters if they shoot tiles?

No. They're tile cannons.

They also shoot studs.
In Jay's Titan Mech- how is that a "double" crossbow?
71781 looks like a aged up version of 71757
ninjago fans: bikes couldn't get more oversized.

Yes."
I'm able to, but I have to zoom in about to 180% or more where the website reformats as if it were on a mobile device. Save button appears then. Not that I'd like to do that all the time, but that is at least a temporary solution.
Dragons for me.... but my son will probably want at least one of those mechs as well

On desktop Firefox has problems with saving edits, but on my iPhone with Firefox, no issues.
I for one am happy to see this news, not because I care about Ninjago either way, but because it means next year's Creator and Technic sets can't be far off!
By far the weakest line so far...
Ninjago has become a parody of itselve....not even a decent "base"
The antagonists look dumb with those add-on mouth-pieces...
nope, nope, nope: a very easy pass....
71783 looks excellent!
The printing industry has the perfect terminology for this : Generation loss.
The mech designers are just showing off at this point!
And I am here for it.
Lego should take all of the Ninjago designers and reassign them to other themes. This just isn’t fair.
In all seriousness, this is another fantastic wave for Ninjago. They have been on a winning streak for at least 4 years now.
Nice group! And not a 4+/Juniors set in sight.
Glad to see themed brick boxes back. Hopefully, more sets get them in the coming year.
That Mech and the Ice dragon with a Mech Alternate build!
The rest of the wave looks a bit Derpy to me though.
This mecha is incredible. Very very strong Evangelion-00 vibes for this one. https://evangelion.fandom.com/wiki/Evangelion_Unit-00/Gallery
Those "Apprentices" in 71787 better not be a hint to Lego doing the same thing they did to friends to this. A "new wave" of ninja...
Looks like we might get a pearl gold version of the 75604 kris sword from the Raya and the Last Dragon sets in that red tub set.
@PurpleDave that’s Nya in the mech rider set, not Jay. And it’s pretty par for the course in Ninjago sets for the vehicle or creature build to only accommodate or be intended for one character.
@ra226 that’s been pretty typical of Ninjago for quite some time now. The Ninja get a new squadron of vehicles or creatures every wave, while the bad guys get one or two good-sized builds if they’re lucky. Then again, one of the builds-if there’s more than one-is usually a fortress, which isn’t going to do you much good if three dragons and a giant robot come knocking. This wave of sets, so far as we know, is unconnected to the ongoing Ninjago storyline, so the Hydro Bounty resemblance is probably coincidental.
@ozbrickcreator I doubt those two will have any bearing on canon, given that they’re not even named. I feel like if Ninjago does a new generation in the way Friends did they’re just going to come out and do it, not beat around the bush. These apprentices look prettier generic, which is honestly disappointing; it’d have been nice to get hairpieces and face prints that resembled established characters like Antonia someone.
Some of the smaller EVO upgrades don't make too much sense in this wave. They look more like turning an unfinished set into a finished set.

Its literally called ninjago CORE. You know, the core aspects of ninjago? Temples, dragons mechs and vehicles? This wave is amazing, considering on paper it seems very bland (2 dragons, a mech, a car, a jet), these designs for the seemingly boring sets are crazy and weird. I dont think there is any other mech that has been released at the scale of the titan mech that looks like that.
Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, this is just mine, sorry that you dont hold the same.
Having Lloyd’s and Zane’s Titan mechs, Jay’s is a must.
I would like to see more sets like 70751 “Temple of Airjitzu”.

I couldn't disagree more.

If there is a Ninjago set of that size planned for next year, it would probably be revealed separately with a major announcement/press release, as most large Direct to Consumer sets tend to be. These are just the regular retail sets for the first half of the year.

Where do you see that? All I see is the sword of fire and a bunch of katanas...
I prefer their bigger sets, the mechs and vehicles are great for kids, but they kinda beg to be played with. I think the theme is great overall, I would have loved it as a child. Jay's mech will be a buy, and maybe the snow monster at a discount.
I'm not a Ninjago fan, so I hope my comment won't be taken the bad way, but it feels like I've seen these sets quite a few times in the past.
One could say the same applies to Star Wars and some other licensed sets. Yes, it does, which doesn't excuse anything.
But Ninjago is not licensed and it still does feel like a bit of a rehash. Perusing the comments, some seem to agree and others passionately don't, which is fine (and great!), but to the untrained eye, it looks like Ninjago - understandably I might add - has been reusing some concepts.
Jay’s Titan Mech is a must. It reads more Evangelion than Gundam like the two before it. Love it though.
Creative Ninja Brick Box has some great structures.
Bone King, Bone Knight, Bone Warrior, Bone Hunter, Bone Guard?
FRIGGIN' BONIES!!!!
@Judgeguy said:
"Bone King, Bone Knight, Bone Warrior, Bone Hunter, Bone Guard?"
Sticks and stones may break their bones, but words will never hurt them. (Unless you call them spineless. That's off limits!) :-P
That ground dragon looks cool but I am.not interested in the rest. Saving for JP/JW and SW as well City.
@ra226:
The horizontal style of stud shooter (like Chewie’s bowcaster) can shoot 1x1 round plates or tiles. I didn’t think this style could shoot anything but tiles, until I read what @560heliport posted, and I zoomed in to get a closer look. The opening is shaped somewhat like the cross-section of a minifig head. The wide part should accommodate a 1x1 tile, while the narrow base and stud on a 1x1 round plate must fit into the narrower parts at top and bottom. If so, this would only work because of the unusual design of the 1x1 round plate that reprised the change made to the early 1x1 round brick.
@MCLegoboy:
Can you delete and repost?
@cody6268:
*71788 sneaks out and taps you on the shoulder*
I’m sure it wasn’t there yet when you posted. I don’t remember seeing anything after the tub, and the water dragon was a bit earlier in the list.
@SearchlightRG:
That’s Nya? Even more typical. Kai rides _two_ vehicles at the same time, while his sister walks.
@PurpleDave well, if any of the Ninja are gonna walk, it’s typically going to be Nya. This wave brings us her third dragon (fourth if you count the Fusion), while Jay, Kai, and La-loyd have five or more dragon sets each. She also tends to be one of the Ninja who tags along in other Ninja’s vehicle or creature sets or shows up in team vehicle sets like the Bounties. She gets vehicles and creatures, but she’s definitely behind her teammates.
The larger sets are alright, and Zane’s dragon looks pretty good. The smaller sets remind me of a bootleg Chinese company.
Two dragons and a big mech please!
Oh no! Collectible banners in sets I wouldn't otherwise buy... curse you TLG, CUUUUUURSE YOOOOOU!!!!!
@PurpleDave quite the sleuthing skills, thanks for the thorough answer!
The Ice Dragon is nice, but will probably go for quite a lot in Canada.
The other ones.. It's like I've seen these sets at least 5 times before.
Anyone else get Eldar titan vibes from 71785 Jay’s Titan Mech...?
*SIGH*...How can I hate that 'Lightning Jet', when it's the second best on I've seen...first being the original one, which I own...:)
Also: P.I.X.A.L. Bot?!?! Isn't that...redundant?
These curb-stomp battles are hilarious! "Watch out, the enemy has a *crossbow wagon*!"
[sweeps them aside with a sword wielding EVA unit]
I actually feel bad for the outmatched villains lol
What i sup with ninjago? I tjought they ended the theme this year?? I am glad they didn't!

I think that's part 93055, Dragon Sword, which has been in 24 Ninjago sets since 2011.
But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

Now that you mention it, yes, I think you're right. Oh well, I can dream that we'll get that kris sword in a useful color some day. ;)
This is the first time Jay is getting a mech night?I think by now every character in ninjago has their own Titan mech - did i miss anyone? Definitely gives me Evangelion vibes. Wish they went with an enclosed cockpit like samurai x mech. The way it looks right now makes it look like he is overly exposed
